Inside GenniBit MeetUp Nigeria: Bringing AI Literacy to Life

May 10th, 2025 marked a bold new chapter for GenniBit — our first-ever in-person AI Meetup in Lagos, Nigeria. It was a spark. A hands-on, high-energy exchange of ideas, questions, and learning, driven by a community curious not just about what AI is, but how to actually use it — confidently, responsibly, and creatively.

This post gives you a behind-the-scenes look at what happened, what we learned, and why it matters more than ever.

Why GenniBit MeetUp Nigeria Mattered

At GenniBit, our mission has always been clear: to make AI literacy accessible, practical, and inclusive — especially for communities often left out of the tech transformation.

We didn’t gather in a sleek conference room to theorize about AI. We gathered in a vibrant space with curious minds ready to learn practical things that can be done with AI. We wanted people to see that AI isn’t something distant — it’s already here, and it can work for you.

And that’s what this GenniBit Meetup was all about.

Behind the Scenes: What Happened at the Meetup

Opening & Icebreaker

We kicked things off with a simple but telling exercise:

“Raise a finger if you’ve used a Deep Research Agent.”

Adeleke Samuel asking Deep Research agent usage question during the GenniBit Meetup Nigeria workshop session.

Only a few fingers went up — mostly from GenniBit students. And that told us something important:
Even with the global buzz around tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok, many people still don’t know they exist — let alone how to use them.

That gap is real. And it’s exactly why we exist.

Workshop: Making AI Agents Work for You

GenniBit CEO Adeleke Samuel facilitating a hands-on session on using AI agents like Manus and ChatGPT during the workshop.

Workshop facilitated by our CEO and Lead AI Instructor, Adeleke Samuel, this was the heart of the Meetup — a live, interactive exploration of how general-purpose AI agents like Manus can be used for:

  • Deep research automation

  • Smart document generation

  • Software development and debugging.

Participants didn’t just hear about AI — they worked with it. The experience was hands-on, practical, and highly participatory.

Ask Me Anything: Let’s Talk AI Ethics

During the AMA session, one participant asked:

Audience member asking a question about AI risks during the AMA session at GenniBit MeetUp Nigeria.

“Will AI ever become dangerous?”

Adeleke Samuel responded with a powerful analogy:

“When guns were invented, the issue wasn’t the tool itself, but how people chose to use it. A police officer might use it to protect lives. Someone else might use it to harm. AI is the same — it’s neutral. The danger lies in the design, the intention, and the oversight.”

The takeaway?
What we need is AI literacy, responsible usage, and inclusive guardrails — not fear or avoidance.

Community Connection & Project Showcase

AMBA graduate Funmilayo Jimoh presenting Team Gamma’s final AI project from AMBA AI Demo Day to the Meetup audience."

After the workshop and AMA, we had a special moment that truly captured the spirit of GenniBit’s mission.

Funmilayo Jimoh, one of our recent AMBA graduates, took the stage to present and demonstrate her team’s final project — developed by Team Gamma and originally showcased at the AMBA AI Demo Day.

Her demo gave everyone in the room a glimpse of what’s possible when accessible learning meets real-world application.
It wasn’t just a project — it was proof of how far learners can go when they’re equipped with the right tools and guided support.

Community Connection

We wrapped up with a photo moment with the GenniBit community and also the GenniBit’s AMBA students — celebrating the power of collective learning, representation, and community-building.

What We Discovered

The event surfaced important truths:

  • Many people are still not using AI tools at all

  • Even fewer know how to use them responsibly

  • There’s a gap between awareness and confident usage

  • People want to learn — they just need access and guidance

In short, we don’t just need AI adoption. We need AI confidence.

GenniBit’s Response: Practical AI Education for All

This experience reinforced our mission behind the Generative AI LaunchPad — a free, inclusive, no-code program to equip learners with the skills to:

  • Use AI creatively

  • Build responsibly

  • Navigate the future of work with confidence

Just last week, GenniBit’s Generative AI LaunchPad program received Quality Check approval from the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative — a huge validation of our approach and impact.

Programs like GAL are how we turn meetups into movements.
